Six of us began our trip at the upper end of Lake Kathawachaga on July 5, 2005. Lake K was partially frozen and we did a lot of dragging over ice. We ran Bellanca Rapids on far right. The only other difficult rapids were on the last day before the canyon portage, and involved very fast water, large waves, boiling eddies, and current into rock walls. The portage of four miles was easy walking. Launching was problematic as the ordinary launch area was covered in thick ice which had floated in from up river. We launched close to the falls. We saw 10 grizzlies on trip, but no large herds of caribou.
