The river extending from Rankin River Dam near Boat Lake all the way to Rankin Bridge is impassable due to fallen trees about every 100 feet or so. It took me 4 hours to do a one hour paddle and if it wasn't for an ATV trail that I was able to pull my kayak up the sand bank and drag a half mile to the Rankin Bridge Road, I might still be there. LOL. Until that part of the canoe route is cleared I would not suggest going past Boat Lake. The paddle up the Sauble River from the bridge is very beautiful though.

The Rankin from Sauble Falls PP is blocked 50 yards from the bridge . Ceadars have fallen and blocked the entire route. Too bad.

My two children and I did the Rankin using Sauble Falls Provincial Park as our start point . Very pretty and scenic. Made trip in late August/04. Low water levels made for lots of walking the canoe and many, many log jams and pull-overs which slowed our progress. We didn't even get as far a Boat Lake befor retracing our steps back to the campground, but a very enjoyable trip. The kids loved it!
