Special Comments:

John Buchan`s description recommends marking the channel back into the Rice River from lake Winnipeg; or using a GPS to mark the coordinates. The mouth of the river is in a confusing archipelago, and it can be difficult to locate the river mouth when it is time to return.

While Lake travel is not included in the route descriptions, this part of Lake Winnipeg is spectacular. The little islands on the East shore are exposed and rocky but you get spectacular sunsets over the lake. Lake Winnipeg can be very dangerous as storms can bild quickly in the summer, but staying within the Kassakeemmesikak Archipelego will shelter you from all but the worst weather. This is a great short trip that is suitable for a novice and has spectacular scenery.
