Biscuit Mix

Ingredients:

8 c. flour

1 c. milk powder

1/4 c. baking powder

3 tsp. salt

1 c. shortening (lard)

Cooking Equipment:

fry pan

Cooking Time:
10 min
Serves:
6
Instructions:

Sift dry ingredients together 3X. Cut in lard and mix with your fingers until fine and crumbly. Store in a large gallon airtight glass jar. At home: pre-package in ziploc bags the anounts you require per bake. At camp: add water and mix in bag. Open bag and make biscuits and put in fry pan and "bake" with a lid over a slow fire. Add a little more water to bag when mixing and knead. Cut a small hole in the corner and drop marble size balls into soup, put on lid and cook for about 5 to 10 minutes until dumplings are floating on top and are fluffy. 1 c. biscuit mix plus about 1/3 c. water makes about 6 biscuits. These can be baked at home in the oven at 450 for 12-15 min. Add some garlic, grated cheese and italian seasoning to the dry ingredients and these make excellent garlic biscuits to serve with pasta.

Comments:

This is a real favourite of ours. It takes the place of Bisquick and Tea-Bisk. We have tried the commercial products and don't like the taste. This recipe is very old (great-grandmothers). Try it it's excellent. Submitted By: Carol (scouter Joe)
