Route Description
Access to Put-In Information:

The only way to access this park for canoeing at a reasonable cost is to use Big Hook Wilderness Camps. http://www.bighookcamps.com/index.html

They have 3 canoes at their Central Lake Outpost. They have two Nova Craft Prospector 17s in Royalex and a Dagger Legend 15 in Royalex.

Prices for the flights required will be about $650 per person for all the round trip flights. The canoe rental is $55 per day per canoe and includes a gallon of white gas per week or one canister of propane. It also includes tent rental. The tent rental (accommodation) from the outfitter waives the need for a Crown Land Camping Permit which is normally required in this non-operating Ontario Provincial Park. Simple paddles and life jackets are included.

Special Comments:

Our route was an extension of an 80 km loop that can be easily done in a week. At the NW corner of that loop we continued west and did a 3 day loop through Cocos  and Joint Lakes. We also spent two days doing an out and back paddle on the upper portions of East Lake. My recommended one week trip would be to paddle NW from Central Lake Outpost and do the Cocos-Joint loop and return through NW Central Lake. We have heard of other portages that would allow even more variations and will search them out next summer.

Big Book is under new ownership and let me know they will work with paddlers wanting to rent the canoes.
