Special Comments:

If you feel like cheating a bit, an outfitter can be hired to bring you by boat from the start point at Clearwater West Lake up to White Otter Lake.
One of the highlights of the trip is the abandoned four-storey log home (White Otter Castle) built at the north end of White Otter Lake. The impressive structure was built by Jimmy McOuat a hermit who constructed the building in the early 1900`s. McOuat drowned there in 1918 and is buried beside his home.

A nice extension to this trip is to continue North from Smirch Lake up to Bending Lake and then returning to the Turtle River. The portages aren't very defined but there is some nice fast water to run for the adventurous folk.

Another way of "cheating" is to fly from your outfitter's to the Castle on White Otter Lake and go from there. This way you see the castle, miss some big water and get the added adventure of a fly in trip. Most area outfitters can accomodate the logistics.
