We leave Wed and looks like there arent any guidebooks in print for the area.( the Dan Brown book is $41 and 12 years old) I wrote down the locations of outfitters and will search in those towns.

I have Lee Gs website but exact locations are sometimes hard to find. I was told by some on the Facebook Newfoundland/Labrador kayaking website to find a gravel beach and go and the tides on the east coast are one meter.. I know of one in Placentia.. something new learned today!

I know a bit about Twilingate so we will go there too.

We'll be in a sea canoe and a sea kayak..

I'd love to hear about your paddling there. We have fond memories of several weeks spent in NFLD back in 1989. At that time campgrounds were pretty empty, tourists were few, and the landscapes and people wonderful. We didn't have a boat with us, but we saw potential for some great tripping in protected bays and sounds, especially on the east coast and up in Twillingate. Kayaking should be excellent. Is the sea canoe a Sea Wind, by any chance? Have a fantastic trip!

Mad River Monarch is the craft. I call it the Sea slog. Usually because my hubby has a Wilderness Systems Shenai( low volume Greenland style kayak) I get to tote the gear.
This time its going to be day trips.
Fleece packed. I hope to add to Routes East NL Coastal

We did some trips. Not a lot of wild stuff as I don't know where the cliffs end.. We paddled most of Newman Bay and all of Bonne Bay ( Terra Nova and Gros Morne). A little off Elliston and Twilingate.

20-40 kph winds were the norm. Lots of reflecting waves. Made Superior seem tame at times.

We were equipped for car camping not overnight wild camping. I learned that in NL access to the water cannot be denied you so if you can physically launch somewhere it is fine. We did make sure we parked out of the way of working operations.

The tidal range is not much but when cliffs a hundred meters high are the norm its best to know where the beaches are and the nature of the slope of the beach.

This Island just south of where you watched the Puffins in Elliston.

I tried to PM you about this through this site about it before you left.
I thought there might be a launch point at the next set of houses just to the south on the same rd the viewing area is.

There might be.. but the wharf launch is so much easier. However we did not paddle . the winds were predicted to be 80 kph. Of course that never happened.

I did get a pix of that island. But its from the shore!

The East Coast of Newfoundland requires a complete kayak roll. Not the first half I am so good at. So I chose to remain upright.
