Well I finally got the word yesterday. My company want us in Kelowna by the first of december. Got a ton of work to get ready for this cross-country move but boy are we excited.
Looking forward to some canoeing on the ocean. Lots of exploring ahead of us.

Going to miss our winter camping friends at Deep Freeze.

Will the company pay to move out your canoe(s)?!

Glad to hear the Kelowna club is still active, I had my doubts. There don't seem to be many canoes in the interior.

If you're interested in whitewater, the Vancouver clubs paddle the Nicola & Coldwater near Merritt, the Similkammeen and Tulameen near Princeton, and the Adams near Sorrento/Chase - all reasonable for hookin' up from Kelowna.

Info and newsletters etc. here:

Have fun with the new province!

PY.

Dan,

Good to hear your move is confirmed. You'll be only a few hours from the North Thompson and Wells Grey Park. 9 hours from Tofino.

Yes the company will be paying for the move. Our plan was to retire out west and be close to our family so the timing was perfect. I will be doing lots of travelling throughout the west and as far north as the Yukon is the trade off. Good time to see the country as well.
Joyce & I will be coming out in a couple of weeks to find a home plus I have to head north on business.
Will be glad when we can put our feet up and relax.

Well it’s a done deal. We finally, after months of hard work, arrived in Kelowna last Wednesday. Yesterday, the moving van, arrived and spent the day unloading all our stuff. It was interesting trying to fit our previous house contents into a condo about 1/2 the size. Found out it can't be done
We had to rent a storage locker 10 x 30 ft to get the rest of our stuff in, including our canoe and 12' aluminum boat. All our winter camping equipment, tents, sleeping bags, sled, snowshoes, etc will be temporally store there, but close at hand.
The weather has been a little cool, and you can see lots of snow in the high country.
We are very excited now that we will be able to do some exploring.
Got our eye on the Shuswap River. Need to do a little more reading about this area. Looks very interesting. And it’s fairly close.

Ah, good move!

We were in Kelowna last weekend. You were lucky to miss last Sunday's really tense driving. There's a usable amount of very nice dry snow up in the hills. We'll be back to Silver Star and Kelowna later in the month.

Dan,

Kelowna is a great place to live -- lot's of places to go from there and the ocean is only 3-4 hours away. I've been doing a lot of paddling in the Okanagan this past several months and we'll have a whole lot of trip locations for that area being added to our website (westcoastpaddler.com) in the next while (unfortunately, my last trip there a few weeks ago resulted in all planned locations being frozen over :( ). In the meanwhile, check out our site for paddling locations around the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Welcome to BC -- it won't take long before you understand why we call this place "the sweet spot of the planet".
