Hoping there's more lurkers from BC on here, or that some eastern folks know people in BC who'd like to paddle more (many people seem to move to BC from east of here, where they used to canoe, but then never get back into it here :tsk: ), here's a plug for the Beaver Canoe Club...

If you want to learn how to get into canoeing and to improve your strokes, rescues, planning, etc. ...
If you enjoy canoeing, but want to meet more people around Vancouver who own canoes, and use them ...
If you do some easy canoeing but would like to try new places or kick it up a notch and try some of BC's great rivers ...

Then you should consider checking out the Beaver Canoe Club!

Starting in late April they do a complete lakewater 'Basic Paddlers' course, great for safety and strokes! Lessons are included with the $20 membership fee!

They also do an 'Intro to Moving Water' and have a busy schedule of river trips, including "Rivers Week" - a week of whitewater on the Similkameen, Tulameen and Nicola Rivers (around Princeton and Merritt).

The club's trips are offered from March through October, as well as some winter whitewater. Check the monthly newsletters to keep up to date:

Cheers, PY.

p.s. The club does not provide canoes, but there are a few places to rent.

Learning to paddle is like learning a language:
It's easy to learn the basics, but will you be understood in a strong wind?

I just posted a link to Beaver CC in BC Resources and Updates:
I'd be pleased to do the same for other clubs, anywhere in Canada (and also in AK, ME, NH, VT and NY).

A literal mind is a little mind. If it's not worth doing to excess, it's not worth doing at all. Good enough isn't.  None are so blind as those who choose not to see. (AJ)
