Region Southeast

Ed notes.
1. Route information for the Southeast region is posted in CCR’s Routes section, at
http://www.myccr.com/canoeroutes/460/canoeroutes
2. Another source for Route information is the Ontario Trip Reports folder, at
http://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum/viewforum.php?f=108
This source contains reports for all Ontario, not just for the Southeast region.
3. I have prepared and posted, in the following, Route entries for both the section and the folder; I caution that additions may have been made since my last scans.

Coverage.
Lake Ontario, the Saint Lawrence River (upstream from Québec) and their immediate basins, except as noted in the following paragraph.

Neighboring CCR regions.
Georgian Bay basin
http://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum/viewtop ... 07&t=36202
Comment. The waters of Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching, and of course their tributaries, flow into Georgian Bay via the Severn River. Route and other information for most of these waters is filed accordingly, namely in the folder Georgian Bay basin. But I have chosen to address the needs of paddlers by filing information for the Black River (Washago), and its tributary the Head River, in the South central region (link below).
Ottawa
http://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum/viewtop ... 07&t=36207
South central
http://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum/viewtop ... 07&t=33999
Comment. Most waters of the South central region (some flow into Georgian Bay) belong to the basin of the Saint Lawrence River, which receives also all waters of the Southeast region. The dividing line between the South central region and the Southeast region is then somewhat arbitrary.
I file information for the Kawartha Lakes in the Southeast region, that for the Kawartha Highlands in the South central region.
Particular 1. Information for Eel’s Creek, the Gull River and the Mississagua River (plus like waters, plus their tributaries), is filed in the South central region.
Particular 2. Also filed in the South central region is information for the Black River (Washago) and its tributary the Head River; again, these waters flow into Georgian Bay.
Southwest

Subregions.
To assist the paddler, I constructed the following four subregions to house Route and corresponding Information entries: West, Quinte, Rideau and Saint Lawrence. The limit of 60,000 characters required two posts for all but the last subregion.

Caution regarding paddling on the Great Lakes.
This entry, based on the Coastal Routes entry for other provinces, is included because much of it applies equally well to paddling on the Great Lakes.
Those of us with a background in lake and river paddling, even those comfortable in big water, might reflect on whether we possess the knowledge, equipment and skills necessary to deal with the different hazards associated with paddling on the Great Lakes. A course or a guided trip might be a good idea before attempting any such Route linked to below.
From what I've read, every responsible paddler carries at least a weather radio; many carry a VHF radio and are well versed in its operation.
