Sorting of Route entries.
Ed notes:
1. For the convenience of the user, I devised three subregions: North, Central and South.
2. Specific inclusions are listed at the head of the subregions.
3. Within subregions, sections are used to collect related information.
4. The limit of 60,000 characters required three posts.

Greenstone area.
By request, all Greenstone Routes are collected in a single region; I chose the Hudson Bay and northern James Bay region, where the bulk of the paddling was done. But some of those Routes lie within the basin of Lake Superior and so are posted here also.

.

North subregion

Coverage.
Waters flowing into Lake Superior between the Minnesota border and Marathon.

Explicit inclusions.
Black Sturgeon River, Gull River, Kopka River, Lake Nipigon, Steel River and Little Steel River.
Entries are posted in clockwise order by mouth, more or less.

Sections.
For the convenience of the paddler, Routes are filed in the following four sections:
West, Nipigon, Kopka, Steel.

Start section West of the North subregion.

Coverage.
Waters flowing into Lake Superior west of Nipigon Bay.

Black Sturgeon River and Black Sturgeon River Provincial Park. Information.
Ed note: Not to be confused with the Black Sturgeon River that is a tributary of the Winnipeg River. This one flows into Black Bay of Lake Superior, about 6 km southeast of Hurkett.

The Wabakimi Project.
Ed note: The following text is by Voyageur.
“This is a unique grassroots volunteer initiative founded to explore and document the historical and traditional canoe routes of Wabakimi Provincial Park. Since its inception in 2004, the scope of this ambitious conservancy effort has been expanded to include the canoe routes that lie on Crown lands adjacent to the park. They provide vital access to Wabakimi as well as to strategic links to nearby provincial parks and conservation reserves.
To date, 161 individual volunteers from across North America and Europe have collectively spent a total of 890 days on 104 trips mapping the canoe routes of the Wabakimi area. Together, they've travelled 4,393 km (2,730 miles) through this vast wilderness area, identified and cleaned 843 campsites and located and cleared 829 portages whose total lengths exceeded 212,404 m (232,288 yards or 42,234 rods).
The Project operates continuously from mid-May to late September each year. Applications are welcome from eligible paddlers interested in participating in this conservancy effort.”

As noted above, the Project is not confined to Wabakimi Provincial Park but rather extends well outside it. Most waters belong to the basin of the Albany River, a few to the basin of Lake Superior. Corresponding Route information is filed in these three CCR regions:
Hudson Bay and northern James Bay, Albany subregion.
