Well, we were hoping to go to Massassauga for the first weekend in october, but waited far too long to book, and availability is terrible at Three Legged Lake entrance.

Suggestions on a relatively challenging trip 2-3 hours from Toronto? Ideally with some fall colours. In theory we have ~Friday noon - Monday afternoon to paddle. For reference, we've done the Nellie loop at Killarney, and that's about the right level of difficulty for our time frame.

So that's the weekend before the T-giving weekend when the T-giving crowds will jam APP at Hwy 60... hoping that the crowds still haven't arrived, the routes south of Cache offer lots of choice and are dominated by sugar maples which should be near peak color at that time. Also old growth hardwoods in a large area south of Cache. The park is esp crowded this year so there still may be more than usual if the fall colors happen to be peaking. But I've been through this area is Sept in other years on similar three-day weekends before peak color and seen no one else. Climbing the lookout on Cache should show some good color if the timing's right.

Are you talking about french river? I've never been there. Or maybe Algonquin?

Just got back from this trip yesterday and had a great time. Launched Friday around 11:30 and got back to the car Monday around noon. Falls colours are already starting to make a slight appearance.

Put in at Whitney ON. Galeairy>>Rock>>Penn>>Galeairy
Whitney is likely at least 3.5 hrs from TO, however.

Mikefly... your question...

APP... Algonquin Provincial Park, Cache lake should be within your three-hour drive limit from Toronto.

@Mikefly here's a report of mine doing the suggestion from @frozentripper

https://algonquinbeyond.com/trip-report ... quin-solo/

It will give you a good idea of what the colours are like. The hike to Skymount (off Cache) gave an absolutely beautiful view of the colours

Hey -- so I booked Head Lake for 3 nights. I think we will try to do as suggested in this thread, and hike in to provoking lake for a night. https://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum/viewto ... 107&t=4103

This sounds way better than a trip to Pete's Place in Massasauga, especially for fall colours.

Thanks for the help everyone!
