Has anyone paddled the Smoky River?

Is there any information on the web? Trip log? Photos?

With the rising gas prices, flight prices etc., we're looking for an adventure close to home that could be accessed with a vehicle shuttle.

Hi Gillian,

There's not much information online about the Smoky. Mark's Guide for Alberta Paddlers has info on the section from Highway 43 to Peace River and the long out-of-print Canoeing Alberta has info all the way from Grande Cache to Peace River. The Canoe Alberta guide from the mid-seventies published by Travel Alberta also covers the Smoky. Send me a PM with your email address and I will email it to you.

I couple years ago we did a section of the Smoky from Smoky Flats to Hwy 43 (near Bezanson). It was 66km of river. We did it in June and the water levels were very high making for a quick trip (10km/hr float speed) but most/if any features were washed out.
