HARVIE PASSAGE – update- Sept 23. 2009

Hello Paddlers;
I attended a weir project management meeting at the first of September.
Parks Foundation will prepare progress reports and I promised to pass them on to the paddling community. The work is on schedule, on budget (for now) and in compliance with environmental permit conditions.
In the meantime, I went for a bike ride today and took a couple of pictures which I stitched into the panorama above. You can see work underway inside coffer dams on both sides of the river. The river is flowing over the weir and thru a temporary channel. Work can now proceed all winter inside these coffer dammed areas.
My two main observations are:
• The contractor is really getting after it!!
• And, the killer hydraulic at the weir crest is in full force.
Do not attempt to paddle here!!! The danger is EXACTLY the same as before.

This is drop #4 on river left. I don’t know what this baby will look like when the Bow River is flowing over top, but it should be awesome.
Those little dots are people.
This pic is from the engineers who are managing the work.
Please circulate or post this wherever you wish.
Call or email me with questions.
