Hi all,

I'm planning a canoe trip with the family for July. I've based my plan around going down the Athabasca from the Dalehurst bridge to the bridge by Sundance Prov Park. Or from the Sundance bridge to a spot about 27 km down river. My questions are. How is that river for family travel? I've seen it many times from the banks in various places along there while hunting, and I've kayaked a stretch of the Berland river near where it runs into the Athabasca, but have never been on the Athabasca itself.

Also what kind of time can one expect to make going at a fairly gentle pace? It'll be myself and my wife paddling, we'll have our 3 year old and dog with us. I have 3 days, 2+ full days on the water. Is the 25-27 km stretches what I should be looking at doing? We plan on 9-10 am departures from camp, 2 hour break for lunch, and stop to make camp around 5-6 pm. Realistically 5-6 hours on the water a day I suspect.
