We're planning to spend time there in June.
Anyone paddle the Frenchmen River?
Looks like it would make for a nice little adventure.

Later Laura

I have not paddled the Frenchman, but it is on "The List". Whether it's been a wet year or a dry year would make a world of difference. Earlier is probably better than later.

I have some contacts who may have some insight. I'll see what they know.

Cheers,
Bryan

Looks like a little higher water might be helpful? It seems like it's pretty close to the pre-spring runoff flows. https://www.wsask.ca/Lakes-and-Rivers/S ... d/11AC017/

Hope you like oxbows. The scenery, wildlife and hiking opportunities would be great. It must be pretty close to peak wildflower season right now. Watch where you step lest you disturb a rattlesnake, or a bison.

Cheers,
Bryan

Hi!
I love Grasslands National Park.. definitely an incredible place and the Frenchman is definitely on my list too, but have yet to paddle it. I echo Bryan's suggestion that water levels make a big difference. Here are a couple resources that I would contact for trip planning advice:

1. Grasslands National Park West Block visitor centre in Val Marie. They could also give info about camping in the park, fun programs, events, trip planning and safety info etc. I know their Sleep-Under-The-Stars Party weekend includes kayaking on the Frenchman in July.

2. Http://carefreeadventures.ca - They are the only paddling outfitter I know of in that area and would probably have much better knowledge of paddling the Frenchman than I.

Anyway, hope that helps! Let me know if you find out any more details about current conditions :)
