My wife and I are planning a slow trip down the Berens from Family Lake. We plan to put in on August 3rd and not be out until August 30th. Our plan is to take the train from Toronto to Winnipeg, get shuttled to Bissette, fly in to Family Lake and paddle out to the the new road where we'll be picked up and driven back to Winnipeg where we'll catch the train back to Toronto. While I have Hap Wilson's book, I would like to tap into any additional information about campsites, fishing, portages, waterfalls and unusual or additional obstacles etc. I do a lot of photography so the more information I have about the route the better idea I can have about sites we might want to lay over. Anyway, if there is anyone out there who has done this trip and would be open to sharing, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Kerry

27 days? Just float....no need to paddle!
ok I understand, you are doing an super slow trip with lots of time for photography.
I haven't paddled that section of the Berens (have done the upper) but I've paddled the Pigeon and Bloodvein.
Hap Wilson's book is really all you need, you won't find anything in the way of rapids, portages and probably campsites that are not on his maps.
Water levels are likely to be low in August and at 27 days you'll be covering the distance at about half the normal pace which should allow you to do layovers just about anywhere you find attractive.

It’s been decades since I was on the Berens but recall it being pretty straight forward. Hap’s book will cover it well.
You have time and could consider taking the scheduled flight to Grand Rapids and then paddle Family Lake or local a boat shuttle.
