Campsite notes:
Good and large group campsite at KM161 (at the bridge) on the river left shore (this site was already occupied by a group of 4)
Instead we used another large area , on the right shore, 100 yards away from the bridge. A bunch of trees help install a large group tarp. (good alternative for large group). The unrated campsite at KM160 is a other great alternative.
The Beaudet bridge site is OK. Area for a tarp available. A short (30m) trail leads south to a forested area for 1 or 2 tents.
The lack of campsite lead to definite planning. Tandem canoes with good paddlers can extend to next campsite…
River notes:
KM 156 (S3/R2-3): Half the group hauled the canoes on the left side to pass the first drop (S3). The others portaged on the right side. A +/-100 yds lining section conduct to a maneuverable, but runnable section.
KM 152 (R3-4): We all paddled-lined-hauled on the right side of the Class 3-4.
KM145 (R3-4/R2/R2-3):We lined the Class 3-4 rapid on the right side of the island.
The ‘’ wading-linning-paddling’’ starts easily but ends in a large log jam. Very difficult lining and hauling over rocks until the end of the island.
After the Island, the following Class 2 and Class 2-3 rapids are definitely the most difficult (long), we paddled in this trip.
Long portage on right shore.
KM138 to KM133 : (Club Jacques-Cartier to confluence of the Jeanotte river )
Great set of easy rapids. With exception of the S4-5: Easy hauling on the right side of the island with some help. The immediately following Class 2 requires scouting from the river to determine best line.
General comments:
First time on the Batiscan with the kids. Great section for the new adventurers.
The water level before the Aux Éclairs river was low without clear lines. Lots of lining-hauling. Ok after.
Raining and/or under the clouds for the entire trip. Temperature around 17 to 20oC.
Sorry but No photos available because I lost my camera at the Beaudet bridge site (long grass everywhere, walk on the bridge, …???)…
Great run for a long weekend...(as when running the Porte de l'enfer section from Club Jacques-Cartier to Gouvernement bridge).
