Anyone run St croix in early april. I am looking to do a trip in first weekend of April. Any information greatly appreciated (dam release etc)

I do not know of anyone that ran it so early... There is a good chance you will have ice to deal with. Most likely snow on the banks.

Why so early?


Water levels can be checked here:

Use the vanceboro guage as a reference.
I've done it as low as 450 (expect some scratches to the canoe at this level).

The lakes will still be frozen and there should be 4-6 feet of snow in the woods the first week of April. Ice outon the lakes is early in May.

Even the Kenduskeag Stream over by Bangor doesnt open up until April 15. Its an early one. But I dont know about the St Croix..the river part may never freeze solid. But I would watch those ice shelves.

That end of Maine is getting it pretty good this year.
