Anybody know what the water on the St. Mary's is like with all this rain? Heading down May 13. Also, looking for river access near Footbridge Pool from the 348 - any tips? Thanks

Day tripped down the St Mary's on May 13th. Put in at Smithfield and pulled out at Stillwater. Lots of stops fishing along the way made it a longer trip than it otherwise would have been. The water was definitely high from all of the rain - the banks were as full as I can recall seeing them and there were a couple of islands that ordinarily are peninsulas. Current was strong and made the paddling very easy, with a couple of fun spots that were more exciting than I remember this river being. Still pretty shallow in certain spots though, but never quite bad enough that we had to get out. No bugs to speak of, but trout fishing was pretty decent along the way. Not another soul seen on the river except for the fish and the ducks. All in all, a really nice paddle through beautiful country. Probably 90% of it through wilderness, much of it through old growth, and lots of interesting sights on the way - cliffs, cedar groves, waterfalls, big hills, old camps, and nice new spreads.
