Hey, I know going from GBL into the Coppermine River is often done via the Dease River through Dismal Lake, but does anyone have any information on the Sloan River? (Or what looks more like a creek to me from maps and google earth).

I'm trying to scheme a route from GBL into the Coppermine in the least distance (but also fewest days) possible. Don't mind portaging, puddle jumping, lining/dragging if necessary.

Does anyone know of folks going this (Sloan R.) way? If not, and the Dease is our best bet, can you point me to some helpful route information for this option?

Thanks a ton!
Lindsay

I believe a Camp Wanapitei V2 group did the Sloan /Hook crossing in 2014. You could try contacting them.
The winter 2012 issue of Nastawgan (WCA journal) includes an article (Up four rivers and down four rivers) about a loop trip from Rae that included the Hook / Sloan crossing and gives a brief description of that section.

I ended up paddling this section as part of a larger trip during the summer of 2017. The Sloan had plenty of water, though we still dragged and portaged a ton, but the Hook was just a trickle in most places. Not impossible, but took some creativity. Longest portage of the section was 7km.
A fantastically remote and beautiful section of Canada....would recommend to anyone who like adventure...and some suffering.

If you're looking for more info on this section I have maps, photos, etc. and you can contact me via email at lindsay.wiebold@gmail.com
