I've written an account of a 14 day trip I took July 2002 down the Thelon starting a little way up the Radford River and ending at Beverly Lake. A great trip!
Check it out at http://shippw.homestead.com/thelon1.html

We only saw a group of 4 in 2 canoes on our last day and I think they were two couples from Wi and/or MN. This info comes from Scouter Joe's group who were 3-4 days behind us.
90 days is quite a trip; it's similar to what described in "The North of Our Lives". They went from the Nahanni R. to Hudson Bay.

Hey Thelon Paddlers: Planning to go summer 2003. Tentative plan: to fly from Calgary to Yellowknife; float plane to headwaters of Hanbury, Thelon, or Elk; paddle to Baker Lake; then somehow back to Calgary. What are the alternatives to travel from Baker to Calgary? Planning to use sea kayaks for the trip...any advice?

You can fly a scheduled flight from Baker Lake to Yellowknife, then transfer to Calgary. One member of our group of four headed back to her home in Vancouver that way.
One other note: why not paddle from Yellowknife to Baker Lake? Great Slave Lake is a tremendously beautiful body of water. It would add two weeks to your trip but save you thousands of dollars in airfare. We did that in 1991 with canoes, the total time on the water being 41 days. Your only hastle would be portaging those sea kayaks over the Pike's Portage Route, the first carry being 5 km in length and climbing 190 meters.

You can also fly from Baker Lake to Winnipeg via CalmAir

The kayaks can go out on the Calm Air freighter for a couple hundred bucks to Churchill then by truck and rail from there to wherever. Passengers can go on Calm Air or Kivalliq Air to Rankin Inlet with connections there via First Air to Yellowknife and Iqaluit, or Calm Air and Kivalliq Air to Churchill and Winnpeg. Sending boats out by barge is usually an option but this year the barge has been replaced by a small freighter out of Montreal, with the possibility Moosonee Transport will do one barge trip to Baker Lake later in the summer.

Thelon,
We will be hunting caribou out of Baker Lake this year. In the past when hunting north of Yellowknife, we left the antlers and capes with a taxidermist there who ships the mounts out the following spring. Would it be possible for us to send these from Baker Lake to Yellowknife? If so, that might be a lot easier (and maybe cheaper) than trying to get them on the same flights as ourselves all the way home to the US. (Also, the taxidermist in Yellowknife does excellent work, better than any we coud get at home.) Any advice or info you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

My fiends and I canoed the Thelon from Warden's Grove to the Thelon Bluffs in 2004. Pictures of our trip and report can be seen here:

Thanks, Brian.

I went through all of Shippy's trip log and it's a great log, very detailed, with some good pictures. It sounds like it was an adventurous trip!
