I want to be able to copy pictures onto a memory stick or burn to a DVD/CD to show in order by subject and not dates.

How do I get them onto another medium to show in the order I want?
I've tried numbering them with the prefix 1,2, etc.
Still I get wierd ordering.

If it's more than 10 items, you may need to use 01, 02, 03, etc.

:o

 yes, guess you would need to do it that way.

Different presentations on the same stick? You might need to add a "name" qualifier, too. For example, "Canmore Canoeing_001", "Canmore Canoeing_002", etc. Once you've done the first one, you can copy the majority of it and just paste it into the following ones. (You would copy the "Canmore Canoeing_" part, and only need to pop in the correct number for the rest of them.

Yep, I use a number as Barbara suggested (01, 02 etc... or 001, 002 etc.) and then put a brief description after, as it's hard to search through several hundred pictures for the exact one you took 10 years ago.

If you have Irfan you can do some powerful bulk renaming.

Irfanview.com

One of the keys is to effectively rename your image files when you download them from your camera.

I rename my images at download using a combination of date and image number (eg: 2009_11_13_001,jpg).

For assembling a presentation using images from a variety of dates irfan is very useful, you can order the images in the sequence you want and then bulk rename with file names that will keep the items in that order when sorted by name.

If you are giving a presentation, have you considered organizing your material (images) in to a presentation software program (ex. keynote or powerpoint)?
