After a six year absence, the Hide-Away Canoe Club will be doing another in their series of online canoe trips beginning July 4 and running to July 22.

Northern Crossing will follow the route of David Thompson in 1796 and Eric Morse in 1957 in a trip from Reindeer Lake to Stony Rapids Saskatchewan.

The expediton will be carried online at www.northerncrossing.ca. For those of you who noted that we were looking for a paddler after Sean Peake had to drop out at the last minute should know that we found someone (whew!)

The site should be active at the begiing of July and it will be hosted once again by the Canoe.ca folks where our three previous online trips are still posted.

Please log in and see what we're up to.

Glad to hear that you found someone, Michael. It's scary to have one person drop out so late. I wish you have a great trip.

I would have loved to join you guys, but I have my trip of the year set for late July & August, and with my limited vacation time that's all I can afford...

I'll be checking out the website.

For those who want to compare styles (and technologies) across half a century, the diary of Eric Morse's 1957 trip is available here, with a couple of photos:

This was another of the "Voyageurs" trips, led by Sigurd Olson. Dennis Coolican was the diarist.
