This summer I purchased my first canoe, a second-hand, fiberglass Quessy Dumoine. After reading too many articles, I set myself to repairing some minor gel-coat damage, and buffing out some of the longer scratches.
Long story short, the boat is now named 'Scuffy'.

Great name. It's a classic "Little Golden Book" title that I loved reading as a little kid. Scuffy loves rivers that flow to the ocean.

Our canoe is call the BTC (Battle Tank Canoe).

It's that old heavy as hell fiberglass canoe that has 10 coats of paint on it, and it's so ancient that it doesn't even have a brand. It might as well be an icebreaker.

Some years ago I got a call from an old friend Dave that wanted to go on a river trip. We had paddled rivers like N Platte in Wyoming years early. We put together a trip with 8 people on the Willamette R in Oregon. As the trip got closer, Dave started to hem and haw. He did not make the trip.

About day 5, we got the idea to call Dave. We were partying in large stand of cottonwoods in the shade having Italian Night. We gave him a hard time about not being there. After the phone call, I pulled out a Sharpie and wrote "Dave's Not Here" amidships on both sides of the old wood and canvas OT Guide 18. It was on there for 6 years until I took the canvas off.

Wife gave our blue Swift Keewaydin the name Bluey Canoey #2. Not sure how I feel about it, but I've been going with it since.

Not mine, but owned by a friend and fellow Yukon race paddler who I have bow paddled his voyageur canoes many times in the Yukon and in NY races. "Slenda Glenda", is an exceptionally narrow fast voyageur canoe. "Compass Rose", is another voyageur of his meant for marathon racing.

The "Raquette River Evaporator" is my own voyageur created for racing the Adirondack 90 mile canoe classic (A day on the Raquette River is a large segment of the race).

We named our first canoe, a 17.5" fibreglass frontiersman, Lard Ass, for obvious reasons. We now own a 17.6 kevlar clipper tripper, but it is unnamed.

Our canoe has no name, but I will have to think about it in a moment ;)

We have "the Banana" (shape and colour), the Borealis (it has had colourful adventures and particle collisions) , Bob (because it does), and the last has not earned a name yet (Chicot (Shee-Coe)).

Nope, never really thought of naming any canoes, Will give it some consideration and wait for the right name to come along. My sailing vessels are Tardis and Rhapsody.

Our 16' Souris River Quetico is called "Buzzkill" because we picked it up from Killarney and it made a very loud buzzing sound on the top of the car as it came home. I had a logo and font picked out for the front of the boat, but have yet to pull the trigger on the order.

Our 14' fibreglass, with float pockets in the rear and stern, weighs around 60lbs, is oddly refereed to as "Big Blue", as it's rather a small boat. It's blue. Mo******er to portage. I bought a 14' tin can fishing boat last year and haven't named it yet.

I name my cars, too. Somehow I care for my things more when I name them.

There was a time when people used to the letters from Discovery 169 etc. to make up a name for their canoe(s).
