We're an inclusive bunch here, right? And we aim to get along, right? (We've come to a consensus on whether the ground sheet goes inside or under, right?)

Aaaaaanyway, here's a thread for those who have yet to develop a taste for an "e-less" whisky.

For me ... If It's Not Scotch, Then What's In My Flask? ... is El Dorado 12 Yrs. Old Rum from Guyana. Everyone should have a taste of this one. Great bang for the buck @ $40

Canadian Club Premium. Only it's not a flask but rather a 60oz (plastic bottle). I always pack it out to reclaim my $0.20 deposit (yes I am in Ontario).

I've felt Alberta Premium was a decent drink at the same basic price of the lesser goods.

Since moving to Canada from the UK I have tried to stick mostly to North American whiskey instead of single malt scotch, trying to keep both my food miles down and limit the cost.
I really like Wiser's Small Batch, way better than the $40 they charge. When I'm feeling a bit richer I'll bring Wiser's 18, double the price and a bit more sophisticated. I have a bottle of Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye waiting at home. If you can track some down this was declared "world's best whiskey" last year. It sells out almost as fast as it is made here in Manitoba but I found lots in North Dakota when I was there.

Sometimes Bailey's for the coffee :)

But mostly I pack bagged wine. 8)
It fits so well into the food barrel

As we all know,
almost anything tastes great in the woods!

Bailey's unadulterated with yucky things like coffee.

Sortilege Prestige

Another vote for Alberta Premium and I also really like the Last Mountain Distilleries rye whiskey (from Lumsden, Sask near Regina). I prefer rye that contains actual rye grain, many do not. I also like to support local distilleries.

I'm also liking the maple whiskeys that are available. I preferred the Tap 357 version to that from Crown Royal. If I recall correctly, Sortilege was sweeter and more liqueur-like. Good stuff that would be welcome on any trip of mine, but the 357 is more whiskey-like and not as syrupy and I prefer the 357 for sipping straight from the flask around the fire.

Regular sortilege is a liqeur, but the prestige one is much nicer, more whisky with just a hint of maple sweetness, and not so syrupy. Harder to get though, in Ontario I have to special order it.

Eldorado 12, Plantation 5yr or Lemon Hart. No mix, just a splash of river water.

I always bring a few 1L tetra-packs of wine. On month-long trips I'll bring four 1L boxes. It's a real highlight to cook up one of my homemade dehydrated meals and pour a tall mug of Cabernet Sauvignon after a long day of paddling and portaging. Sure, it adds weight to the outfit, but I've decided it's definitely worth the few extra pounds.
