I should have gone out on Friday when the weather was perfect. Instead I mucked around yesterday and then just got blown off the water in Collingwood Harbour...trying to test out Milan's new bent shaft creation!

Apparently many of the lakes still have a lot of ice but most of the rivers and creeks are open now - I have been out for a few weeks.

Found some liquid water for an Easter get-away. Ice still in the quiet bays.

So the Chestnut floats!
After repairs and recanvassing i brought my Chestnut Pal home last week in hopes of paddling. There was some open water on the rivers of Northern Alberta- in fact by last Wednesday most of ice on the North Saskatchewan River through Edmonton was gone, though ice still covered most lakes and ponds.

The weather however took a turn from Spring like and we awoke to heavy wet snow on Good Friday
and by Saturday there was over 15cm on the ground - so much for my paddling plans!
Easter Sunday broke sunny and warmer and I decided enough is enough! The Sturgeon River through St Albert is in flood and ice free, lets go for a paddle! And so with my wife and daughter we launched in downtown St Albert and spent a terrific couple of hours on the water.
I'll need more timer to determine if the seat heights are correct- I raised them from the original position but I'm very pleased to report that this 50 year old canoe is seaworthy again!
