I went through the Hinton watercraft inspection process a couple weeks ago when returning to the Edmonton area after a week of paddling on Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park. The inspection area is in the weigh scale parking lot on the south side of the road, east of the park boundary but west of the town of Hinton. The inspection process was fairly quick and painless. The inspector looked at the canoe and kayak that were on my roof rack and gave us an inspection report before informing us that we could proceed. They did say that the fine for not stopping was in the range of about $350 or so. Just as we exited the inspection area, we had to wait a few seconds for a truck loaded with an aluminum boat on the roof which bypassed the inspection area. Didn't see any police chasing him down.
