Hi All,

I just came across a reference to the Canadian Centennial Canoe Pageant, which still holds a record for the longest ever canoe race. It ran from Rocky Mountain House to Montreal in 1967. There were 10 boats built by Chestnut in 1966 to practice and the race boats were built by Mosie Cadorette in early 1967. Were these w/c or grp and does anyone know what happened to them.

Best,

Erich

Erich,

There was a thread not too long ago on the same subject. The boats to the best of my knowledge were are fibreglass- or better yet GRP as you called it. And they were heavy pigs!!!

For the 2008 David Thompson Brigade from Rocky Mountain House Alberta to Fort William Ontario, one of the hulls from the original moulds was borrowed from Rocky Mountain canoe club and paddled and it was HEAVY. One of the original 1967 paddlers, Norm Crerar, of the Centennial Saskatchewan Team was also on the Brigade.

Not sure where the other boats ended up but the boat from 2008 is still around.

Bruce
