Hi everyone, I am looking for some canoe repair advice. I have these cracks that developed after I used my friend’s canoe in the 50k paddling Kawartha marathon. It looks to me like the plastic shell cracked. Its a Kevlar canoe so not sure if the strands showing are fiberglass or kevlar. My questions are

1. Is it still a safe boat to paddle?
2. Where can I repair it? I live in Kingston, ON

Thanks in advance for any advice!
Regards
Filip

Can you post some more images? A long shot that shows more of the boat and some close ups of the most damaged areas?

I've never seen anything like this. Looks like a lot of the gel coat has dropped off. And the damage looks more like abrasion than "cracks". Don't know what to say about it.

That's just the gel coat cracked to expose the Kevlar. The damage is mostly cosmetic. On an older canoe I would just use some body filler an touch up with the closest color of paint I could find. This boat looks brand new though. Where are all the scratches? I have never seen such a pristine boat outside the showroom. The biggest prob, IMO, will be getting the paint to match.

Dry it out, dremel it out to clean it, fill with gel epoxy, then paint it with some matching nail polish.

Thanks for the replies guys! It was my buddy’s canoe- he rarely uses it and the Marathon paddle was down a river so no real rocks to bump into. No idea how it occurred, I’ve never seen anything like it either.

I will do the epoxy/nail polish trick. Thanks so much!
