One of the Facebook comments mentions a narration, which I'd love to read, but all I can see are the excellent pictures.
WRT the route description, I'd call both River Travel and Remotness as intermediate. It's a great route to practice your skills for a real Advanced level trip.
Is there an "Extremely Insane" rating for things like L & L's Ungava trip?

Thank you for this very nice trip report and collection of photos. This is a trip I may do next year with friends.

I thought this line in the accompanying text was interesting:

"It would have been nice if the camp had portaged all their canoes on their first trip (as is custom) so that we didn't have to arrive to such a crowded pull out."

On my trips I always double portage, and I almost never carry the canoe on the first crossing because I like to be able to get a good view of the trail, obstacles and surroundings before walking and climbing with a canoe on my head. (But before I portage I do get my boat and gear out of the way for other potential travelers).

I cant speak for usual camp practices but solo I never take the boat over first for the reasons Steve describes. Usually its more useful to take the pack over first with the saw just in case. One time the portageur went first with the canoe and off down the wrong fork in the road. Took several hours to locate him..
Its not an excuse though to just leave your boats blocking egress from the water.

Its not a hard trip.. but more of a transition to more ambitious trips.

IIRC that river is the scene of the long river paddle in the excellent book, Three day Road.

I used it as a coming-of-age trip for my twin diabetic boys when they turned 13 yrs old. Did it once with a little motor - blasphemy, I know, but I hurt my hand and it was the only way I was going to make it.

I really enjoyed your journal and photos. Brought back a lot of memories from when I had the time (before kids) to run this from Dog Lake to Moosonee in 97. This is motivation to plan this trip again!
