Interesting fight back by the oil industry.

They quite rightly pointed out that tankers are double hulled now but then went on to ask how much Paul Simon got paid...

I wonder if Paul Simon knows that California's oil production produces more GHGs than the oil sands, or that California is one of the most ecologically altered places on earth, as a result of all the river diversions.

Recent news on the Keystone pipeline piping bitumen from the oil sands down to the states... reports say that there is now a good chance that the project won't be approved. A year or two earlier this seemed almost unthinkable, given the thirst for foreign oil, Keystone seemed like a sure thing.

If Keystone isn't approved, that increases the political pressure to push a pipeline through to the Pacific instead. BC anti-pipeline sentiment is high, "over our dead bodies", etc.... interesting developments for sure. Also the new Secretary of State John Kerry's environmentalist background, will he cave to oil interests or won't he... lots of tension here.

There is an interview with David Hughes of the Post Carbon Institute, worth watching if you can track it down, apparently there is already sufficient pipeline capacity to get Tar Sands Oil to the Pacific if they wanted to. Perhaps Keystone is a plot to get more US oil to Canada!
