I have just received a heads-up about acidic mine effluent that is flowing unchecked into the Magnetewan R.
Here's a September article on the issue:
http://www.northbaynipissing.com/news-s ... d-run-off/*Many of you are probably familiar with the Magnetewan River. It certainly was a family favorite for us. Have a look at Dad's film
Song of the Paddle as many of the sequences are from the Magnetewan River.
https://www.nfb.ca/film/song_of_the_paddle/*The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society suggests that how you can help is to read the article and try to bring this issue into the public eye.
*Public pressure will encourage the powers-that-be to carry out the order to buffer the acid.
*Let's all keep our ear to the ground on this one please.
BackgrounderCPAWS Wildlands League has just become aware of the acidic mine effluent that entered the Magnetewan River from November 2015 to January 2016 from Ontario Graphite’s mine near Kearney, just west of Algonquin Park’s Boundary as posted on the EBR (Registry 012-8192) and as reported in the North Bay media.
