So far I've read two articles on the project.

Here is a dumbed down version (cause it was easier for me to understand) from a masters student:
"Apparently the area they're planning to flood has high levels of mercury in the vegetation and topsoil, and when they flood it'll turn it into methyl mercury, which ya is really easily absorbed by us and the fish. I guess it'll feed into a lake where lots of Inuit people live and rely on fish and seals"
