I have been researching the Ivanhoe River in hopes of paddling it this June. I noticed on some youtube videos and internet posts that there were to be 2 dams built on it, one at The Chute and another at Third Falls. This happened to me several years ago when I was researching the Kapuskasing River only to find that the dams had just been built at the time I was going to paddle it. So I was having bad thoughts on what had happened to the Ivanhoe River.
I was having a very difficult time determining if these dams have been built already or if they were still in the works. I came across Ontario Rivers Alliance and sent them an email. Linda Heron replied almost instantly and very kindly. The dams have not been built and will not be built. Rather than copy and paste Linda's email I will post the link with the description of 10 Ontario rivers protected from 19 hydroelectric projects on the Ontario Rivers Alliance website.
http://www.ontarioriversalliance.ca/10- ... -projects/I am ashamed to say I was not aware of this group..at all. Well we often post up threads about bad things happening to our rivers. I think this is a real nice piece of "happy news"!!! I don't believe it has been posted on myccr yet...with the exception of a thread Allan made about the rivers at risk back in 2014.
