A reminder letter wrt the federal governments' past commitments to protect 25-30% of Canadian natural areas by 2025-2030 and money that needs to be budgeted towards that. The form letter can be signed as is or with individual thoughts added in.

CPAWS' initiatives should result in greater potential to keep canoe routes natural and undeveloped as well as increasing the extent of parks and natural areas protected from development, in the long run should help ease crowding being experienced today... for example one of the options includes a phaseout of logging in Algonquin park which currently occupies 2/3 of the land area, could be better used to add campsites and recreational options, reducing park congestion in crowded Southern Ontario, while adding employment to the economy.

With the recent fee increases, reports of crowding and neglect, it's becoming obvious that parks and protected areas need the money, now's the time to draw some attention to these problems... thanks.

Thanks to all who took the time to sign and send in the CPAWS reminder letter... the 2021 federal budget announced today looks good in initial news reports, $605 million to be spent on protecting lakes, rivers and natural areas.

Bigger picture green, Justin Trudeau's campaign promise is there in conservation...

Quote:
...$17.6 billion for green recovery — to conserve 25 per cent of lands and oceans by 2025 and to put Canada on course to exceed climate change targets by cutting emissions to 36 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030.

Happy paddling in those newly protected areas wherever they may be, specifics should be announced at some time.

Some snips from news reports this morning, inland waters and freshwater area conservation are included.

---------------------------

Quote:
Monday's budget also promises $2.3 billion in funding to federal departments such as Parks Canada and Fisheries and Oceans to conserve up to one million square kilometres of land and inland waters to meet the country's 2025 conservation targets.

...

The Canadian government has set a clear trajectory for the recovery of nature in Canada with a $4.1-billion budget commitment over five years. This investment includes targets of conserving over one million square kilometers of freshwater and land by 2025
