Hi Dave
Erhard's map is correct, the drop off is mileage 14.3, on the Nemogos Sub at Nitro Creek. Camp isn't very far off the tracks - about where the "N" in Nitro is on the map.
Cheers

I've been dithering a bit about going but I am going to try to commit to attending this year. Most likely doing the Thursday to Sunday. I need to get a way for a few days. See you all next week.

Well after saying I would be going, I am going to have to cancel as I have to deal with something we all have to deal with on occasion; a death in the family. I don't think I will have everything put together in time to go. So have fun everybody and I will try again for next year.

That looks like a pretty nice forecast for DF... after yesterdays rainstorm and balmy temps I was getting worried and thought I might have to bring my "rupper poots" ( Finn slang for rubber boots :>) )
Look forward to see the Sat gang off at the station tomorrow and the rest of you at Nitro Creek on Thurs...

The snow depth is a bit "wimpy" - about 20cm in the area between Manitoulin and Timmins, according to Environment Canada:
http://weatheroffice.gc.ca/data/analysis/352_100.gif

Great for walking on the firm snow, a bit skimpy for quinzee building, and probably plenty of slush on the lakes to make afternoons on the lake ice a soggy affair....

Actually I think the recent warm weather followed by a hard freeze will make slush a non-issue. It should also make the travelling conditions very good.

Jim and myself are on our way to Sudbury. We just got a call from VIA Rail that tomorrow's train is cancelled.

Anybody has more ino?

We will keep going. Should be there in 2-3 hours.

I received a call as well. I spoke to Via as well as the station
in Sudbury. It seems the train is in need of repair and will not be ready to go. Th next trip is Tues.

Sniff. Thanks for the tip guys, I had just got the last of the gear into the car and was about to get the shoe horn so I could do the same with the kids, when I saw your posts.

Sigh, I guess we'll be coming up monday night now. Perhaps I'll book my tickets on line now so if they cancel Tuesday as well, I'll know.

cheers,
darryl

I phoned the train station and here's the scoop - the Budd has mechanical difficulties and they couldn't guarantee the train tomorrow especially with the large numbers and amount of baggage and gear we all have. They state the train will be ready for Tuesday. Now we all know that things change and lets hope they're correct.

Some of us plan to head up to the Sideburn Lake area and head across country to the Nitro area planning to arrive there Monday. This is not a trip for the faint of heart and will be a long strenuous trek across country. We plan on using the train to return on the following Sunday.

Will be at the train station Sat morning to talk with folks and let them know what our plans are but again I must emphasis this will be a long strenuous trek and if you plan on coming everyone will responsible for their own welfare. There will be no guarentee that we'll make it and our backup is to return to the Hwy if we can't get to Nitro. We do have a sat phone for communications etc and we can stay on top of the train situation daily.

Sid
