Joe and I walked into this years DF site this afternoon as we wanted to check on the access from HWY 144 due to the large amounts of snow this year. There are very limited areas to pull onto the shoulder along this highway and the spot we used in 2011 is very unsafe and there is literally no shoulder area at all there this year.

Approx. 500' further on there is a safe shoulder area to pull onto to unload our toboggans and gear etc before parking about 1 km back down the hwy in a large plowed gravel pit. The spot is on the west side of the hwy by 3 signs and a trail runs into Sideburn about 100' south of the signs.Unload your vehicle, load your sled/toboggan and pull over the bank onto the trail, then drivers can go park their vehicles. Trail heads westerly for about 150' then heads downhill to the open area/lake along the north side of the open area/lake and then through a swale into Sideburn and then to the camp area. The trail through the swale was brushed out and is readily apparent. It is also flat!

These 2 links will take you to a shot of the parking area and a Google Earth photo that I have annotated with the above info. See you next Saturday or whenever you make it in to camp 8) Cheers.

So let me see if I understand this correctly and clearly.

According to the photos, at 900am Saturday Feb 15/14 we are unloading north of the lake we used a couple of years ago, at a cleared shoulder of HWY 144. Then driving down 1.5 kms to park in the already cleared parking lot. Hike (or shuttle) back to drop off. Then snow shoeing in to the site?

Did you guys hike in? Break a trail? Any snowmobile activity? And who cleared the lot? Was it already done? Is it private property? Or did you guys mange to clear or have it cleared? And if so, was there a fee? Just so I know if I have to bring cash.

Thanks again for all your pretrip work guys!

Hey Swift...
Here's an excerpt from a pm Scouter Joe sent me yesterday ...
"Smokey and I went out today and cut the brush from the trail in and packed a float to make it easier to go in on Sat. The trail starts about 1oo meters north of the lake about 100' south of the 3 signs close together on the west side . The parking lot south of the lake is still plowed and should have ample room for longer term parking . Joe"
If I recall correctly, Smokey and Joe et al went in late fall to prep the site for this years DF, so it should be as set up as Nitro in the past. Have a safe trip in on Sat..
See you on Wed, guitar in hand...
Cheers,
Al 8)
