Every summer for the last decade a pair of merlins has nested in 80 ft spruce trees near the row of cabins I live in. Three young ones just left the nest. We do not have to see them to know they are there. Their calls are loud and frequent. The neighbors put out bird feeders and the merlins are eating the chickadees that come to the feeders. We know what trees the merlins prefer to sit in while eating because of the loose feathers they drop while plucking their prey. Douglas |

I saw one chasing a Meadowlark. The meadowlark was in overdrive and the Merlin was closing without even trying. Great birds. Thanks for posting your observations. |

We saw one catch and eat a Tree Swallow while we were vacationing on Pelee Island this spring. They are perfectly designed predators. |
