If you ever wanted to see just what a stern man in a canoe does watch the semi's and finals of the C 2 event on Thursday the 11.

This course was re-designed after last year and it is much more of a toilet now.

It is a very tough course and use of water and how the stern man sets angles and his timing with his partner.

Yes it is the extreme side of doubles paddling but the camera angles this year are amazing, it is like sitting on the shore of the river, and the English guys doing the paddle by paddle call (on CBC) are pretty knowledgable.
(Can't promise what the US guys say we can't get the feed up here  )
On CBC you can go to the website and stream it.

The slow mo replays are great also.

(Does anybody really pay attention to this moving water thread... 8) )
test question :)

Amazing skills. Should be medals for LC1 and LC2( loaded canoe) on the same course, with hoards of black flies and alder branches slapping you in the face on the near shore gates. Also extra points for not spilling beer or coffee. Just a thought.

The last International race that I participated in as an paddler was in C2.
The one race because they needed a C2 forerunner too and we were definitely the weakest team, we scored an extra run, there was one move that was really (really) sketchy. Sketchy being if we screwed up there was a very good chance of being pinned.
In course approval foreruns, you work your way down the course in sections so we had lots of prep time for the move.
The Sketchy move was faster (direct)
We made the move, but they changed the course over safety considerations
When I did a lot of teaching people had a hard time believing that paddling C2 was harder than solo,
But it really is, there is so much more involved let alone the weight.

A course that takes a fully loaded boat through alders and rocks would be challenging though!
