This is THE CLASSIC canoeing film that many of us loved when kids, and watched a bazillion times laughing our guts out. We would get our teachers to show it several times a year, every year, in every grade. It’s very funny, and gets funnier when you know what’s coming up next. It also had special resonance for me since I would spend all summer at canoe camp on the Shield in those cedar-canvas canoes, and drink the water straight from the lakes. The film has great conservation and stewardship messages, and is just as relevant today with the speeding up of the mega dam and diversion projects.

It’s free viewing on the NFB site. If you or you kids have never seen it, get them to sit tight for the slow opening and "ancient" corny music until the 3:40 time mark, and then the fun starts. Education that’s fun too!

(Maybe we should petition the NFB to make a sequel on the greatest post-glacial lake of them all: Lake Agassiz!)

My wife Liz shows not only Mason's Rise and Fall Of The Great Lakes, she also shows Paddle To The Sea, and Water Walker. in her classes of grade 6 & 7.....The kids love them still today!
