Im looking for a moving water course around barrie or Orillia (ontario). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Not only are they the best , but may also be the only ones ( in Canada) who provide moving water courses for canoes, ( most other courses are kayak only). When I took the course they had folks come up from Pennsylvania since it was the only course they could find.

also pretty hard to find moving water in the Barrie Orillia area after June.

I don't know if Rolf Kraiker still comes over to this side of the province to teach or not....the info on his website is out-of-date, he doesn't live near Barrie any more. But it won't hurt to shoot him an email.

That is certainly NOT true. There are several companies in Saskatchewan alone that offer courses of this sort.

There are several opportunities in your area. For instance look at Paddlefoot (http://paddlefoot.ca/) or Paddle In (http://www.paddlein.com/) or the ORCKA website (www.orcka.ca). You will find plenty of offerings and at the latter site either organizations or instructors that can meet your needs in your local area. There are lots of white water canoeing locations in Southern Ontario. I manage to find it almost ten plus months a year. Yes conditions vary with the seasons, but I have never been left high and dry, only frozen out.

I think what Ben was implying is that it's a really fantastic placed to combine vacation with really good personal instruction.

I'm going to put in a word for Blackfeather. they offer a moving water clinic and a Tripping clinic. If you have moving water experiecne the tripping clinic looks good

Blackfeather uses thes clinics to prepare their clients so there is a definate tripping component plus these are guides and trainers, been there done that talk about many of the synarios you want intel and insight about.

Rick teaches too BTW. He's not going to say that but I will (most of the instructors are both too modest and they respect the fine line of commercial advertizing and respect that MYCCR has a policy). A custom with someone like Barbara's recommends or Rick or any of a number of other instructors here on CCR can condence your learning curve. Plus sometimes it's nice to have confidence in your stern/bow. You get to feel what the boat should be doing.

Another upcomming option is Whitewater ontario. check with Jeff Strano on wether Algonquin outfitters new agreement to teach at Gull River Minden has a canoe component.

you can find him there; note, there is a definate kayak bias(website) but they do canoe and there are really good canoe instructors in the WO family

I like paddlers coop as well. When talking to them be sure to state you are looking for a high tripping focus.
There is canoe playboating as well. So be specific.

My recommendation would be Paddler Co-op (http://www.paddlerco-op.com/). I use them for lots of whitewater canoe courses. They do kayak and swift water rescue too.
