It's November 5th. There's no snow; very little ice. So the canoe is a go. I hope you enjoy the South Saskatchewan River and a tributary as seen from my canoe.

Nice video. Very peaceful. I've been cross country skiing for about 2 weeks! Thanks for posting.

Thanks Ralph, especially for using the term peaceful. Peaceful is ideal, and this late in the season one pretty much has nature to themself out here. One morning I rounded a bend and about a two year old mule deer perked its head up and away from the browse it was eating and stared. I froze all movement except that which the canoe had left of its momentum. It watched me as I drifted to the bank and held the stare for about another minute at least until it continued eating again. Maybe it decided I was a drifting log, but it wasnt concerned and I watched it for another five minutes before it walked to a bush over a hill. At that point I carried on paddling. There's something rewarding about that.

Great experience with the mule deer. I had a similar experience on a local creek with a herd of elk. I came drifting around a corner on this small creek and there were about 15 elk. They all turned to look at me but I froze and let the canoe drift. There was no movement for about 15 seconds then one of them decided I wasn't to be trusted so, in about 3 seconds, they all dispersed. Quite exciting! Thanks for the videos.
